SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
On Saturday, September the 6th, 2008, we received the very sad news that the founder of International World Ministries, Dr. Aril Edvardsen, (69) passed away while on a trip to Africa.
He had just completed a peace and harmony conference and a gospel campaign at Zanzibar and had retreated to Mombassa in Kenya for a few days of rest. Right before returning to Norway he fell ill with chest pains and died shortly after arriving in the hospital.
Dr. Edvardsen had suffered from a severe heart condition for several years.
He will be greatly missed by his close family, friends and the family of believers all over the world that received the gospel of Jesus Christ after hearing the good news for the very first time because of his ministry.
International World Ministries will continue in the same spirit of the great legacy Dr. Aril Edvardsen left behind. His son Rune Edvardsen stepped up as president of the mission two years ago and the mission will continue reaching out to people of all faiths, creeds and nationalities with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Statement on the Passing of Dr. Aril Edvardsen
A great man has passed. To borrow a phrase, a giant redwood has
fallen.
For more than ten years, I have had the privilege of knowing and
even working for Dr. Aril Edvardsen who is the "Billy Graham of
Norway." He was a unique man of God who was a trailblazer. He was
like a modern version of the Apostle Paul. He brought the gospel to
people who normally would not get to hear it. Since the end of the
cold war, his big focus was on reaching Muslims with the
life-changing message of Christ crucified, for sinners died, and
risen from the dead. He preached the gospel to millions of Muslims
around the world, but not by insulting them and their prophet or
their book, but by showing respect to their book. He preached the
gospel to Muslims using the Koran and the Gospel[s], which the Koran
says is full of "guidance and light." We all need guidance, and we
all need light.
Aril built bridges of friendship with various people groups all over
the world. He held peace conferences between Christians and Muslims
and people of other faiths. He did all this, while never
compromising his core belief that "God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish but have everlasting life."
I had the privilege of traveling with Aril on two of his
international campaigns. The first was in Malawi (Africa) in 1998,
and the second was in Pakistan in 1999. I was most impressed with
the way he preached the gospel to mass audiences, he trained
pastors, and he helped reconcile Christians to Muslims. I also got
to visit him in Norway as well.
We will miss Dr. Aril Edvardsen tremendously. He has left the world,
after having positively impacted millions of lives. I can only
imagine his home coming up in heaven!
